| In a field where the design process can take months to perfect, and deadlines are inevitably extended, our firm was presented with the epitome of time crunch. Our biggest challenge and most humbling project to date had a five day period to come to life in our office before it would begin construction.
Our client was a family whose eight year old daughter recently overcame cancer. Her drive and positive outlook on life after such tragedy became an inspiration to the designers. Our team worked to unveil an extraordinary home for an extraordinary little girl.
The home was designed with Spanish Colonial styling. Great care was taken to showcase classic elements characteristic to the style while maintaining an ease of constructability. With the family’s unique situation, the marriage of holistic elements and architecture were crucial. Creating a home that was safe and promoted a healing environment was accomplished through natural, psychological, and technical ways; integration of water features and healing gardens… theater and storytelling spaces… uv and hepa filters. Our profession is utilized to its fullest capacity when it affects someone’s life in ways that are not materialistic. A revived sense of humanity runs through our office after an eight year old girl reminded us of the humanity found in Architecture.
